On Thursday, December 4, 2008, Money Week Houston and Wells Fargo will host the "On The Money Luncheon" on Financial Literacy with the United States Treasurer Anna Escobedo Cabral. The luncheon will be held at The University of Houston University Center in the Houston Room located at 4800 Calhoun Road, Houston, Texas. Opening remarks will be given by Mr. Glenn V. Godkin, President, Greater Houston Region Wells Fargo. The luncheon will convene public and private sector leaders that include financial institutions, community & faith based organizations, schools, colleges & universities as well as the media. The luncheon will focus on innovative and effective programs and partnerships that support the promotion of a money smart culture among all ages and demographics.
Ms. Cabral was nominated on July 22, 2004, and was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 20, 2004. Immediately prior to taking this office, Ms. Cabral served as Director of the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Latino Initiatives, where she led a pan-institutional effort to improve Latino representation in exhibits, and public programming among the Institution's 19 museums, five research centers, and the National Zoo. From 1999 to 2003, Ms. Cabral served as President and CEO of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility, a non-profit organization headquartered in Washington, DC, which partners with Fortune 500 companies to increase Hispanic representation in employment, procurement, philanthropy and governance. Under her leadership, the organization published a best practices series, and instituted a partnership with Harvard Business School to provide executive training programs in Corporate Governance Best Practices to community leaders.

The Houston Rockets teams up with LaunchPad on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 for the helping Houston "Get Back to Work" Seminar prior to the Houston Rockets vs. Phoenix Suns game.
LaunchPad introduces the possibilities
of entrepreneurship to those who are facing unemployment during this
challenging economic environment.
Presented in a condensed format to
meet participant needs, the LaunchPad offers new resources, helpful
information, and online tools to reinforce the overall goals of the program— evaluating the potential of starting a business and developing a plan for a successful startup.
Key themes help aspiring entrepreneurs as they determine feasibility of their business idea, understand the needs of the market, and explore bootstrapping ideas to get the business started.
